So lemme take a guess as to why you’re here reading this post. Hmmm…
-
You’ve reheated your coffee for the 7th time this morning, because kids.
-
Your child walked right past her father, climbed up a flight of stairs to ask you to open a pack of fruit snacks and is now trying to squeeze that pack of fruit snacks to you through the crack of the bathroom door.
-
You’ve considered telling your children that their real mother lives in North Dakota and it’s time to take a nice little drive to the airport.
-
You’ve locked yourself in the pantry and are trying not to breathe because those little munchkins can find you ANYWHERE. They can literally SMELL you!
-
You’re pretty sure Christmas Break lasted about 10 months last year and you’re about to email the school board a tactful ugly-gram about the demise of the education system.
-
Your attempts at meal planning are epic failures because if by the grace of God you happen to drag 3 kids through the grocery store and make it out alive with a fraction of your sanity, you’re too exhausted to cook by the time you get home and end up ordering pizza for dinner. They will also be having leftover pizza for breakfast in the morning, with fruit, of course. #balance
-
Your head is about to explode.
-
You just need a few minutes a day when no one is talking to you. #sorrynotsorry

The Dakota story might actually work! Or this one I heard one time… tell them the government has outlawed the use of “Mummy” and all its derivations! Or my favorite… ask the Lord to show you how to do this mommying business right! Thanks so much for sharing this post, Brittany. Blessings to you!

Thank you so much Boma. That is truly my constant prayer. My kids would laugh. I don’t even know that they’ve heard of Dakota at this point 😘😂😂

I am so thankful that as a mom of 3 kids 2 years apart, that I never went through a period of overwhelm. My biggest struggle was the month I started a new business, was the brownie leader and PTA president. It was a struggle until I figured it all out. But my kids and hubby were always part of the solution, never the problem. Thank you, God!

That is so awesome! We’re you working when the kids were young? I find that I am most overwhelmed during the school year and track season when I come home exhausted but I don’t want to lose precious mommy moments. Thank God, though, for those periods of rest that He squeezes in when I need them most!

Girl yes! We have to keep that in mind at times. We do have to give of ourselves but not so much that we are no longer good to anyone.

This cracked me up: “You’ve locked yourself in the pantry and are trying not to breathe because those little munchkins can find you ANYWHERE. They can literally SMELL you!” My kids are older now (9, 11, 12, 13) but I can still remember when I’d hide in the bathroom for a little peace of mind.

The first part of your post brought back memories when my children were younger. I use to tell my children that their real mom was my niece. It didn’t work because somehow they didn’t believe me. 🙂 Your tips are excellent. I wish I had your blog to read in those good old days but I am sure you are helping many mothers now.

I can relate to this. My kids can smell me and even my dog and cat. I can’t hide anywhere just to breathe. My little calls me (mommy…mommy..mommy…) million times. From the moment he wakes up to bed time. My two boys constantly arguing about everything, ex. Who finishes their meal first, who brushes their teeth first and everything. Sometimes, I feel like I’m going insane.

Oh my gosh yes!! My boys constantly argue. I have to figure out when to step in and when to let them figure it out.

My go to self-care tip is to leave time SOMEWHERE for reading and quiet thinking.
Of course, my unhealthy approach to this is to trade sleep for it when I’m in a pinch . . . not so good.
