Making Time for God as a Busy Mom (With FREE E-Book)

Making Time for God as Busy Mom | ordinarilyextraordinarymom #busymom #christianmom #overwhelmed #stressed #ebook #freeprintable #inspiration #parenting #motherhoodAs moms, we have A LOT going on ALL THE TIME!  Life never quite goes as planned.  For example, I spent countless hours this summer cataloging all three of my children’s back to school lists by line item.  I printed lists and checked them over and over.  I made multiple last minute trips to stores only to discover the night before school began that I accidentally purchased colored folders for one child twice and NONE of the colored folders the other child needed.  (Insert eye roll here.)  One child lost his backpack the first day of school, and the ten uniform shirts I carefully counted out before uniform shopping has miraculously dropped to four in less than a week.

With all of the constant madness, spending time with God is important for my own sanity and the sanity of all of those who surround me.  I do a combination of things to make sure this happens.  Because life as a mom is a mixture of calm and chaos, sometimes all of these things happen, and sometimes none of them happen.

1.  The Bible App

My number one go-to mom move is the Bible app on my phone.  I work through devotions depending on the need I have in my life and where God takes me after prayer or even during prayer.  (I have an ongoing conversation with God throughout the day.)  I usually complete the devotion on the app right when I wake up in the morning, and the devotions do not take long – at the most 5 to 10 minutes (perfect for a busy mom).

2.  YouTube (or Podcasts) During Morning Commutes

Another way I carve out time to grow close to God is in the car on my drive to work.  I love listening to YouTube videos of my favorite pastors on my commute.  It is during this time that I can hear God the clearest as I have nowhere else to be but in that car on that journey.  There is nothing else that I can be doing besides driving so God has my undivided attention.  As a writer, I want to bottle up all of our conversations so I can remember them but many times, that is not God’s need.  He just wants a simple talk with me one on one without all the distractions.

3.  Intentional Uninterrupted Me Time

Finally, I grow closer to God when I block out a set time on my calendar to go to my office space, read a word from a book, pray for 5 minutes, sit in silence and listen for 5 minutes, then journal it out for 5-10 minutes.  These are the times I feel the closest to Him.  When I make the time, I am never disappointed.  I wish I could say that I do it daily because it helps with clarity every time, but alas, life is life as a busy mom so I do the best I can and rely on God’s grace for the rest.

I was so excited to learn that my dear mama in Christ, Sarah, was creating an e-book to give all busy mom’s guidance on how to draw closer to God in the midst of motherhood.

You can download the Drawing Near Free E-Book to get advice from new mamas, veteran mamas, and all moms in between.  I was honored to be a part of such a beautiful collaboration.

      1. I have sent my kids to before care and after care for 10 years. I left my job in May to be a stay at home mom again. I know what it’s like having to go to after care- usually mine would be the last ones picked up. Praying for you and your kids this school year! I love your blog! You were the first blogger I followed! ❤️

  1. Thanks for the e-book! I downloaded it and will look through it…when I get a chance 😉 God Bless you, Brittany and all the encouragement you share! I have been trying (yet again, lol!) to be more intentional in my time spent with God. I’ve been reading in bits and pieces as I have time throughout the day (not everyday, but I try) and then writing important verses on notecards so I can look at them again later. God Bless!

  2. I love the Bible app too! For me, I get up at least an hour before my kids to make sure I get that quiet time with God and me time.

  3. Motherhood can be chaotic and messy and there are also days when patience run thin. Sometimes I forget that I am not alone and have to remind myself that. Like you, I have an ongoing conversation with God and I also have an ongoing list of things that I am grateful for that I run through in my head. Doing these two things help me find calm in the chaos. Podcasts sounds great. I will have to try them!
