Your Mission in Life: Accept It

I thought I was a regular girl living regular life.

Then I resigned.

The response I received was overwhelming.  The phone calls, the voicemails, the text messages…all too much for a regular girl trying to live regular life.

The more calls, the more voicemails, the more text messages, the more humbled I became.  I could not understand the fuss.  All I could think was, “I was just trying to save the children.  Anyone can do that.  I does not require Brittany, specifically.”

So I sat, and I thought, and thought some more, and then thought some more.  What in the world has people so upset??  What makes me so special?

And I recognize that I have gifts.  I have an uncanny ability for application of pretty much anything to pretty much anything.  I have an innate understanding of the problem solving process, which ties to my ability to see the big picture, decide on an outcome, and determine what steps I need to take to make that outcome happen.  I hold athletic and academic records and accolades.  I possess never-ending energy and playfulness.  But as I checked these and other items off the “what makes me so special” list, the response made less and less sense.  None of these “specialties” had anything at all to do with ministering to children.

Or maybe they all did…

Only after speaking to a friend did everything connect.  “You loved our children. You really loved our children.”

Absolutely I did.

Ahhhh…..Love.  Always the answer.  It is who I am.  It is who I have always been.  Eternally optomistic.  Genuinely concerned and caring.

Living life.

Loving life.

But someone who loves and someone who leads are not necessarily the same person.  All I really have to offer the world, my job, my household, the ministry…is the best version of myself.

And God smiled, that same smile He always gives me, and said, “That my child is all that I require.  That is what the fuss is all about.”

As the school year closes, and state testing ends, I find myself catching up on all the “new” movies.  Today, we watched Mockingjay (the first one).  I am no Mockingjay, but she spoke a line that spoke to my soul, “I just wanted to save my sister and keep Peeta alive.”

 1.   Your mission in life is to save someone other than yourself.  My sister just completed a blog entitled “Get Over Yourself, Life is SO Much Bigger Than You.”  In the movie, Katniss wins us over because all she wants to do is save her family, save the love of her life, and live happily ever after.  Yet, in the process, she starts a movement – a movement of people intricately involved with her success.  Their lives, their families’ lives, depend on her success or failure.  You are that person to someone.  So while you may believe you are just trying to save yourself and those you love, someone else depends on you.  Someone you know and someone you have never met.  Perhaps a few someones.  Perhaps hundreds, or thousands, or millions of someones.  Whoever they are, they need to see you win.  Their survival depends on your victory…on your life…on your story.

The second movie I watched was Transformers (2014).  At the end, Optimus Prime states, “There are mysteries to the universe we were never meant to solve. But who we are and why we are here, are not among them. Those answers we carry inside.”

2.  Your mission in life is to find who you are and why you are here.  They made a fuss because I am doing exactly what I am meant to do.  I am living the life I am meant to live.  I am special because I am unapologetically me.  And you must be unapologetically you.  In my opinion, the word regular should never be used to describe a person.  No one is regular.  No one is ordinary.  We are all extraordinary in our own ways.  Once we search deep within, we will find answers we so desperately seek.

Everyone deserves Mockingjay moments.  Every is entitled to ordinarily extraordinary Optimus Prime occassions.

You are not a regular person living a regular life.  You are absolutely worth the fuss.
