How to Embrace Your Natural Hair Journey

I was completely unprepared to go natural. I did not know anything about hair type or texture. I did not know a thing about porosity or styling. All I knew was that my hair refused to grow back after giving birth to my baby girl.

One way to embrace your journey is to recognize that hair is healthiest in its natural state - #naturalhairjourney #embracenaturalhair #naturalhairhealth #healthynaturalhair #curlyhairjourney

I also knew I wanted more for my daughter than appointments every two weeks at a salon. She should not have to worry about scheduling fresh relaxers around major events, and most importantly, she should not have to purchase the hair she wished was actually growing out of her own head. I wanted her curls to highlight her beauty without defining it.

Yet, children learn more from what they see than what I could ever say so I had to do it for her. I had to go natural for her. I wanted better for her…so I wore sewn-in weaves for a year, and then I chopped it off. Well, I chopped off what was left of it…

Another way to embrace your natural hair journey is to learn to love the curls growing out of your head naturally. - #naturalhairjourney #embracenaturalhair #naturalhairhealth #healthynaturalhair #curlyhairjourney

  1. I’ve been natural for a couple of years now and it’s only recently I’ve had the confidence to really rock my natural hair and I’ve really started to embrace my curls ❤ Great post!

  2. Same. I actually went natural for my daughters. I remember trying to teach them at 11 and 9 to love their own hair and having an epiphany, like how can I be telling them one thing, but running to the salon every 4 (yes 4) weeks??? So, I grew it out a little bit and then cut it all off. I’ve felt free-er ever since ❤
