Channeling Light in Darkness

We could all use a little light.  Everyone is dealing with something.  We are all dealing with something.  Sometimes that something is small.  Other times that something is monumental, but that does not negate the fact that every once in a while, we all appreciate a moment of stepping outside of ourselves and our situations and into a little light.

I have spent the past few weeks engrossed in conversations with individuals I love who are on the verge of giving up.  I have spent the past few weeks convincing myself that NOW is a terrible time to give up.  Then…on January 12, 2018…I received a package.  I racked my brain to try to remember if I had ordered something that I had not yet received.  Nothing came to mind.  Excitedly, I ripped open the packaging, and there it was right before my very eyes…LIGHT!

Sometimes life sends you a reminder when you are least expecting it.  Sometimes life sends you a smile and a pat on the back.  Sometimes life reminds you that your efforts have not gone unnoticed.  This was one of those times.  I giggled, and I immediately posted the shirts in my story.  I laughed as I remembered God indeed has a sense of humor, but mostly I took the time to relish the light.

As a back story, Jamal Lewis, Founder and Creative Director of N I N T H & L U X  contacted me about blogging last November.  He was looking for a lifestyle and fashion blogger, and at first, I was not sure I fit the bill.  Then I read up on his company.  I had seen his products before, and I loved the quality of his work, but I did not understand.  I did not understand “Ninth” or “Lux” so I did a little research.  There it was in plain black and white – “born from the Ninth Ward and groomed by life.”  The creators channeled their energies which stemmed from “being brought up in the days when [their] elements were labeled as some of the darkest and most dangerous in America to overcoming the tragedy of a hurricane named Katrina.”   Instead of allowing such darkness to overcome them, they “remained inspired by ‘Hope.’ … ‘Hope’ is represented by ‘Light,’ and ‘LUX’ measures that intensity of how bad [they] truly seek greatness.” (Source)

At the time, I was coping with leftover lemons from my sister taking her son from my custody unexpectedly.  I was working through damages and repairs to my recovered stolen car.  I had high blood pressure for the first time ever in my life, and I could not believe I did not make the connection.  Lux – “a unit that is used for measuring the amount of light falling on a surface” (Source).

The best word I can use to describe my sentiments is elated, but before we could work out the details of a collaboration, my darkness spiraled from bad to worse.  Yet, as I was recovering from worse, I received a package.

Inside the package was light, and the more I learned, the greater the lux output.  As I am drawn to the concept of light and now of lux, I began to ask Jamal more and more questions.  You can read the Interview Question with N I N T H & L U X.

That package “told a story … without even saying a word.”   The brand is not for everyone … It is for those who are “versatile, urbane, fearless, and seekers of truth…the ‘well-bred.'” It is for those who are dealing with something, for those on the verge of giving up, for those who could use a little light.

N I N T H & L U X is deeply seeded in “faith, art, music, life and culture.” The designers seek “to create and impact.”  They understand “what appearance can do for the soul of people…[and] want to contribute to the growth and progression of the world and the stylish people who live in it.”

“And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people
permission to do the same.”
~ Marianne Williamson

  1. I like to channel light into darkness by a smile as my clients come into my shop, by a listening hear and sometimes a prayer with them if they are open. All around my shop are positive Christ centered messages which people often comment on. I always pray that even if I don’t get to say anything, that the presence and light of God would touch the hearts of the people that come int.

  4. I try to walk daily under the direction of Him who shines in me. I try to be flexible to where He takes me and to what He wants me to do or say. Often it’s a smile or a funny comment or an encouraging word. Sometimes it’s a hug or a prayer or a blog post or an act of kindness. This is what God calls us to, and our answering the call brings glory to the One to whom we owe our very life, our breath, and everything we have. ❤ 🙂

    1. Yes it does. Sometimes I’ve noticed too that walking is His direction doesn’t make as much sense as I would like it too. Like right now, He’s been asking me to start reading again. All I think is, “what does THAT have to do with anything?” But He continues to walk me in that direction.
