Decluttering Your Time: You’re Running Out (With FREE Printable)

You are running out of time.  I gave you a list, and you still have not managed to stick to it.  You think you have all the time in the world.  I am here remind you that time is the one thing you DO NOT have.  And while you waste it liking photos on Instagram and Facebook…watching feeds on Snapchat, YOU ARE RUNNING OUT…

…of time.

I made your list short.  I made it concise.  It is one of a handful of blogs that still gets likes and comments and generates followers.  Yet, you seem to have forgotten five small items I told you to keep on your decluttered to do list so let me remind you:

  1. Daily devotion with Me.
  2. Play with your children.
  3. Enjoy uninterrupted time with your husband.
  4. Exercise
  5. Document the process

You’re too busy sweeping the floor, folding your way to the bottom of your laundry basket, making sure your house is ready for announced and unannounced guests

You’re too busy looking at what I told her to do and watching her take off.  You’re too busy being consumed in what I am doing for them.  You have lost yourself in the lives of others.  You’re too busy trying to look like them.

I’m done letting you figure things out.  You’re a teacher so you know there always comes a time when you stop letting the students discover, and you start telling them how to do things because you know the way to the correct answer.  To explain the hows and whys of the formula requires knowledge above their level of comprehension…

I have given you the formula – five stupidly simple steps.  And you are still GETTING LOST IN THE DETAILS!!!

Just do it.  Because I said so.

Sometimes you are too smart for your own good.  You have figured out that I bless whatever you touch whether or not it is on the path I prepared for you, and you are using it to your advantage.  But your time is up.

“Take up [your] cross and follow me…for what will it profit [you] if [you] gain the whole world and forfeit [your] soul?”  (Matthew 16:24-25)

Look at my track record.  You cut your hair, and I gave you a video shoot with your favorite hair care line (The Love of People).*  I gave you your favorite hair care products free (or deeply discounted).  I gave you free styling advice from experts in your field.  I gave you free tickets to an amazing Fly Girl Mixer* during Essence weekend – an event that highlights reading from the authors themselves.  And yet, you’re still caught up in where we are going and how we are going to get there!

Time is precious. We must manage our time wisely following the will of God and cherishing those He called us to love. Out of all the areas we declutter, time may serve as the most important.

I do not need you to know where we are going.  I do not need you to know how we are going to get there.

I JUST NEED YOU TO FOLLOW ME!!!

How do you do that?  Let me remind you:

  1. Daily devotion with Me.
  2. Play with your children.
  3. Enjoy uninterrupted time with your husband.
  4. Exercise
  5. Document the process

I do not need you to look at the lists of those around you.  I have them on a different journey to a different destination.  Both of your journeys are ordinarily extraordinary.

But I have a deadline.  And you’re running out of time.  So let’s go on your ordinary path to your extraordinary destination.  You are sure to enjoy every step along the way.

  1. Sister girl this post is on point. At first I was like…what but when you read this like a letter from God it puts things in perspective. Thank you for your words of truth in such a plain way that touches the heart. Stopping by from Salt and Light Link Up.

    1. Thanks so much for stopping by Timberley. I feel like God asks me to say things, and I am notorious for changing them up, especially after I reread them. As I was going back and forth about whether or not I wanted to change, edit, reword, I clearly felt Him say. Type it and publish. As. Is. So here we are. You words are reassuring!

  2. It’s like I needed to see “Decluttering my Life.” I need more organization, and I can hear God telling me that. I write for 2-3 hours a day, but I need to organize my blog reading, personal reading, and marketing. That is all over the place. Thanks for the post that ignite me to do what I need to do! Enjoy your day!

    1. The blogging world is all a blur for me right now. Unbalanced is my best word do describe it, which is why I think he intentionally used the words – “document the process.” He did not ask me to promo and organize. He didn’t require blog posts specifically. Just document and share. Find a short list of what He really wants and run with it. Thanks for stopping by.

  3. Hi there Brittany! I love that to-do list. But loving it is not the same as doing it, right? I’m reading a book, Only Love Today, which has a similar message. Slowing down to enjoy the people we live with and love, Putting people first. And God, yes to putting Him first!
